Prerequisites Before Migration
Before starting, make sure you have the following ready:
- Access to your current web hosting account (or WordPress admin dashboard).
- Access to your domain registrar account (to update DNS records later).
- An active Hostinger Web Hosting plan and access to hPanel.
How to Migrate Your WordPress Website to Hostinger (Step-by-Step)
Method 1: Automatic Migration via Hostinger (Recommended)
Hostinger offers a free, automated migration service built into hPanel. This is the fastest and easiest method for most site owners.
1.Submit a Migration Request in hPanel:Initiates the automated transfer process.
- Log in to your Hostinger hPanel dashboard.
- Navigate to Websites > Migrate Website (or search for Migrate Website in the search bar).
- Click Add Request or Request Migration.
2.Provide Your Current Site Details:Enables Hostinger’s system to fetch your site content.
Select WordPress as your platform and fill in your current website credentials:
- Domain Name: Your website URL (e.g.,
yourwebsite.com). - WordPress Admin Login URL: Usually
[yourwebsite.com/wp-admin](https://yourwebsite.com/wp-admin). - Admin Username & Password: Credentials for an administrator account on your old host.
3.Submit and Wait for Completion:Migration takes between 2 to 24 hours.
Click Submit Request. Hostinger’s migration team and automated tools will download your site files, database, and configurations to Hostinger servers. You can track status under the Migration Requests tab.
Method 2: Manual Migration Using All-in-One WP Migration Plugin
If you want direct control over the transfer process or prefer using a plugin, the All-in-One WP Migration plugin is a reliable choice.
1.Export Your Website from the Old Host:Creates a complete backup copy of your site.
- Log in to your existing WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New and install All-in-One WP Migration.
- Activate the plugin and navigate to All-in-One WP Migration > Export.
- Click Export To and choose File.
- Once processing completes, download the exported
.wpressfile to your computer.
2.Set Up WordPress on Hostinger:Prepares a target environment for your site.
- Open Hostinger hPanel.
- Go to Websites and click Create or Migrate a Website.
- Select WordPress and complete the quick auto-installer setup on your target domain/subdomain.
3.Import Your Site onto Hostinger:Restores your site content on Hostinger’s server.
- Log in to the new WordPress dashboard on Hostinger.
- Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.
- Go to All-in-One WP Migration > Import.
- Drag and drop the
.wpressfile you downloaded earlier. - Follow the on-screen prompts to overwrite the fresh installation with your migrated data.
- Re-save your Permalinks under Settings > Permalinks to ensure page links work correctly.
Method 3: Manual FTP & Database Migration (Advanced)
For large websites or developers who prefer manual control without plugins:
1.Download Website Files via FTP:Saves public_html to your computer.
Connect to your old host using an FTP client like FileZilla. Download all files from your website’s root folder (public_html).
2.Export the MySQL Database:Obtains the SQL database file.
Log into your old host’s cPanel/database manager, open phpMyAdmin, select your WordPress database, and click Export (using the Quick export method).
3.Upload Files and Import Database to Hostinger:Transfers content to Hostinger servers.
- In hPanel, use File Manager or FTP to upload your files into Hostinger’s
public_html. - Go to Databases > Management in hPanel, create a new MySQL database and user.
- Open Hostinger’s phpMyAdmin, select the new database, and click Import to upload your
.sqlfile. - Update
wp-config.phpon Hostinger with the new database name, username, and password.
Final Step: Point Your Domain Nameservers to Hostinger
Once your site files and database are residing on Hostinger, update your domain’s Nameservers (DNS) at your domain registrar so visitors hit your new Hostinger server.
| Record Type | Hostinger Nameserver Value |
| Nameserver 1 | ns1.dns-parking.com |
| Nameserver 2 | ns2.dns-parking.com |
Note: DNS propagation can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to complete worldwide.
